Mondragone.. my city!

Mondragone is a small city in the province of Caserta, even if it have about 30.000 habitants. The first ones who lived there were a people of the Aurunci and Byzantines too. After that, Mondragone has been occuped by the Normans who re-built our castle.

My city is mostly famous because of the sea: turists come here all above for our sea or for our  delicious foods. In fact we produce a exquisite mozzarella and a local sweet, scrippella.
Most typical ballads are really ancient and we don't know where are they from.
Our Patron Saint is Madonna Incaldana and we also have a sanctuary were people pray a lot.

If you go to this little but cute city you can visit the ruins of Sinuessa, Torre Del Paladino, Rocca or Castle (built between the 8th and the 9th centuries and later modified by Aragonese Sanctuary of Belvedere and then the Museum Biagio Greco, that is really interesting! And even a dog's breeding, called Foof.

Story Stems - The Three Sisters

The Story is about a clever man, Tywan that had three daughters called Meenhi, Wimlah and Gunnedoo, who he treasured all of them. This story takes place in the magic land of Gandwana. The actions begins when a huge evil creature called Bunyip lived in a deep hole in the valley. He loves human flesh, all above of that young girls. If you meet him the only safe thing to do was run away really quickly. If people needed to pass in the hole it was important to it very quietly.
So, when Tywan had to pass this hole he would leave his daughters safely on the cliff behind a rocky wall. While they were waiting their dad, one of the girls suddendly screamed because she saw a huge centipede. She picked up a stone and threw it at the centipede but the stone rolled over the cliff and the rocks behind the three sisters was opened now.
When the Bunyip arrived, he was hungry and he was reaching for the flesh; then Tywan looked up and undertanding the situation he pointed his magic bone at the girls and turned them to stones.
He would change them back when the monster had gone but he didn't left  them, next he follow the man into the forest. He used his magic bone again and changed himself to a Lyre Bird. Just next he realised that he had dropped his bone while changing.
After the Bunyip had gone, Tywan searched and searched for his magic bone.
The story ends with the three sisters stand silently watching their father and hoping that one day he will find his bone.

The Story of Gelert.

The story is about a prince called Llewelyn who have a dog named Gelert, the prince had a wife and a son too, but his wife dead in his child-birth.
This story takes place in the middle age, in Wales. The action begins when Llewelyn and his men went out for haunting and said to his cute and strong dog to protecte and take care for his little son, that lay in his crudle.

When the prince came back home in late, tired but victorious, he opened the door he don't found his baby lying in the crudle but just the floor and even the son's crudle was full of blood. He looked down to see Gelert's trusting eyes gazing up on him. The dog looked exhausted: his head and his paws were stained to blood.

The prince roared "you wicked creature!" and without thinking he took his dagger and plunged it deep into Gelert's side. As the dog lay dying to the ground Llewelyn heard a soft whimpering from behind the crudle.
He picked up gently his son and too late he saw a huge wolf lay dead, like his bravery dog and too late he knew everything. He understand his big mistake.

Speak UP! The 150th b-day of fish and chips!

The article that I've read tells about the 150th b-day of fish and chips. Fish and chips oficially began in 1860 even if no-one knows sure where. According to "the first theory" fish and chips shops was opened by a men called Joshep Malin, in London - "the second theory" say that the father of this dish was a certain Ms Lee.
Fish and chips are considered the best British dish, but the truth is that Italian immigrants have played an important role in their evolution. In fact, we have for example Giovanni Fionda that is the son of two Italians who moved in Scotland, and he tells about his story. He says that, when they arrived there (with his parents and grandfathers included), after the war they came with the will of work and so when they arrived in Scotland Villages they opened a fish and chips shops, but for they said that for them it was like to play. In fact they were used to ploughing the fields and to do difficult things so for them it was really easy. And Italian people love food so they were happy to cook potatoes and fish, giving an Italian chef hand.

My favourite TV series.

American Horror Story is an American horror tv series. The series started in the USA in October 5th, instead in Italy it's started, more or less, in November. This series became successful very quickly. It's created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck.
There are four seasons - which each season is represented as a miniseries, following by a
different set of characters, settings and stories. It isn't realistic, is not based on something real. The series are:

- The Murder House

- Asylum

- The Coven

- The Freak Show

My favourite season is the third: "The Coven", that tells about a group of witches that live in New Orleans. This coven of witches fighting against those who want to destroy them.
A few of friends like the programme and in my opinion, the series is really nice and disquieting, but in the meantime is exciting, even if there are some parts too hard to see.
I will recommend this TV series just for those that can see horror TV series, of course.

After school... I am going to go to University. Which one?

When I leave my school I am going to go to the Trinity College where I will study Art and Design, in Dublin - Ireland. I've NEVER been in Ireland, but I think that is a great and an amazing city and it's always good to make new experiences.

My interests in art and design - all above in art - started when I was little and I drew everytime, because when you are really small you have lots of creativity (and when you grow up you have to try to never lose it). In the afternoon I went in the art lab and I've learn how to do nice and colorful drawings. Then at the middle school, thanks to my Art teacher, I've learn how to painting and to draw things or people in a more complex way but in tecnic I am not very good because now I attend the High School of Languages, for many reasons, and here we do Art just from the third year.
But I really love art and design and I want to know all about it.

So, actually I can't study really well art, but the truth is that I want to create something of mine and explain what means to me. And I'm sure that art is a form to express myself - it helps me to be more confident and to calm me. I really love Art and I'd like to have a Degree in Art and Design.. that would be the world to me.
Once I've read a quote that say "Art is a way of survival" and I agree.

↓Sant Patrick's Day and Easter!↓

Who is St. Patrick and why people celebrete him? Well, Sant Patrick today is the patron of Ireland and people celebrate every year on March 17th in his honour. They organized amazing parties and parade, eat green clover-shaped cookies and have fun.

He was born in a village un Wales and when he was little (at the age of 16) he was captured by Irish pagand, takend to Ireland and sold into slavery for six years, for the simple reason that he came from a Christianity family.
During that time, he grew to like the spirit of the Irish. When he escaped and returned to his family, he vowed to one day return to IrelandPatrick initially encountered many hardships among the pagans, paricularly the druids. They weren’t willing to give up their power over the old religion and feared Patrick and Christianity. Patrick traveled from town to town, tearing down idols and temples and establishing the Catholic Church. So, he brought Christianity in Ireland and he converted many pagans to his religion. He baptized, confirmed, and ordained priests, and he erected schools and monasteries. Thousands came into the Church under his direction. He accomplished all these activities in less than 30 years, during which time the whole island nation of Ireland was converted. Toward the end of his life, he wrote Confessions, in which he gives a record of his life and mission. He died on March 17, 461, of natural causes. He is buried in Downpatrick in present-day Northern Ireland.
There is a legend that tells about Patrick and says that at his time that were a lot of snakes (today in Ireland that aren't snakes) and he chased them into the Irish sea.

EASTER.

Easter is a Christianity festivity. People celebrate it with family and go to the church. In Italy, many churches hold special services on Easter Sunday, which celebrate the Jesus Christ's resurrection.
People have a big lunch and they buy to their kids chocolate eggs and someone also decorate eggs.
In other countries it's organized the Easter Hunt that means to hidden eggs and then children search for them.
-SYMBOLS OF EASTER
For this festivity there are some important symbols like:
●Eggs symbolize the tomb from which Christ emerged and the hatching of the baby chick is the symbol of new life being born.
Rabbits rappresent fertility and re-birth. Lambs just re-birth.
The cross is the symbol of the victory that Jesus had over death.
●Easter Lilies symbolizes the purity of Jesus.
The Butterfly was chosen as an Easter symbol because of its unique life cycle. It begins as a caterpillar that stands for the time Jesus spent on earth. The cocoon stage is next which represent the crucifixion of Christ and his sepolture. In the last stage it emerges from the cocoon as a beautiful butterfly which symbolizes his resurrection in a new glorified body. As you can see these symbols were not randomly chosen, they all have a specific meaning that is associated with new life and re-birth

Speak UP! New York City - Life in the Bronx.

The Bronx is just one of the five boroughs that make up NYC.
The Bronx  is positioned to the north of Manhattan. Today the aerea has a population of 1.385,000.
The Bronx was considered an attractive suburban area but this image began to deteriorate in 1970s. In fact the situation in the south Bronx was particularly bad. Then the econimic situation in NY was disastrous at the time - the city was declared "bankrupt" in 1975s. To make things worse  a number of business owners carried out arson attacks on their own proprety in order to claim the insurance. For this the south Bronx was considered a "war zone".

That was the situation in South Bronx.

However, the Bronx is coming back. The borough has always been the home of the famous NY Yankees baseball team. Two years ago they moved to a new stadium and this is seen as a sign of the borough's revival.
People today are rediscovering the Bronx's charms: it is home to the NY Botanical Garden and the world famous Bronx-zoo. There is also a little "Italy-Here" family business sell mozzarella and other Italian food. Now that the more famous Little Italy, in Manhattan, is appearing tourists are also heading up to the Bronx.
